Abstract :
This article addresses the subject of the oasis
of Figuig, located in the South-East of Morocco, which we discovered during our
ethnographic study. The oasis exemplifies how humans adapt to a desert
environment through the architecture of the ksour, agricultural methods, the
traditional irrigation system, and mythical legends. This enterprise,
characterized by a historical coexistence between Amazighs, Jews, and
Arabophones, reflects a social structure based on strong fortifications,
communal water sharing, and a collective imagination transmitted through myths.
However, Figuig is currently experiencing significant changes linked to
migration, socio-economic shifts, agricultural diseases, and desertification, which threaten its tangible and intangible
heritage. The article highlights the importance of protecting this unique
oasis, rich in cultural, ecological, and identity challenges.
